COVID-19 INTERVENTION PLAN: APRIL 2020 – MAY 2021

In 2019, the COVID-19 virus emerged and rapidly spread across the world, becoming a global pandemic, that resulted in hundreds of thousands of deaths. In Uganda, strict lockdown measures left many families without a source of income. Working people, including the well-known boda-boda (motorcycle taxi) drivers, were no longer permitted to operate, leading to increased poverty and food shortage in villages. A short video report documenting this humanitarian response was produced. Covid Aid Uganda video: click here
Thanks to donations from the Contribute Foundation and Wilde Ganzen, Stop Poverty was able to provide essential assistance to tens of thousands of villagers across Busoga, East-Uganda.
Our relieve team of 12 staff members produced and distributed educational leaflets in both the local language and English. These materials provided essential information about COVID-19 and preventive measures to help reduce transmission and protect vulnerable communities.

The relieve team delivered food and sanitary parcels with masks and soap to every house with aid of 16 Red Cross workers and 16 army soldiers to prevent robberies. Hunger in this region had become so extreme that people did everything they could to escape hunger.

The villagers were extremely grateful for the assistance provided. Widows often had no one to help them. Parents were unable to feed their families. Children were suffering from hunger.

For the extensive Covid relieve aid provided to the villages in Busoga and the provision of preventive information in the local language, we received five awards, including a recommendation from the Prime Minister’s Office.
